Answer for: Should the U.S. government reduce the amount of nuclear weapons in Montana?
#2 Montana has more nuclear weapons
then all of China
There is not a strategic difference between having 1000 warheads in Montana and having 250. Either way you'd run out of targets before you ran out of bombs, so what's the point. While Rehberg's concern about jobs is a valid one and one of the reasons Montana still even has an Air Force base, it is a waste of manpower to have government employees upkeeping an archaic defense system and would be cheaper to put them all on pensions. Does Rehberg really think that these people are so singularly trained as to not be able to be assigned a different mission? The fact that we have thousands of nukes but are worried about Iran creating just one shows how little leverage they actually bring us in the post-cold war era. If this was for anything other than the military, this same congressman would have been screaming pork until he was blue in the face.
